Mass casualties and multiple injuries were reported Sunday after a huge explosion at a Connecticut power plant, police confirmed to Fox News.
Al Santostefano, the deputy fire marshal in Middletown, told The Associated Press the explosion happened at 11:17 a.m. Sunday at the Kleen Energy Systems plant there and portions of the building blew away.
"There are bodies everywhere," a witness told the Hartford Courant.
Medical rescue personnel told the newspaper there were at least two fatalities, and at least 100 people injured — including four in critical condition. The paper also reported that as many as 20 ambulances were on the scene.
Santostefano said 50 workers were inside the building at the time of the explosion.
Dozens of witnesses said black smoke could be seen for miles.
A resident of East Hampton, Conn. — directly across the river from the plant — told Fox 61 that he heard a loud booming explosion at about 11 a.m.
Immediately afterward, the witness said his house shook, leading him to believe someone had driven a car into his home, the station reported. The incident reportedly interrupted services at a nearby East Hampton church.
Police are advising everyone to stay away from the area.
The power plant was reportedly undergoing construction at the time of the explosion, and authorities said they do not know what was behind the blast.
Updated February 05, 2010 FOX News Poll: In 2010 Elections, Incumbents Beware By Ernie Paicopolos - FOXNews.com
Americans dispense just about as much disdain for Republicans (42 percent favorable; 46 percent unfavorable) as Democrats (42 percent favorable; 48 percent unfavorable), according to a Fox News poll released Friday.
As Americans look ahead to the mid-term elections, anything new is preferable to anything old, -- such as an incumbent. And despite recent Republican wins in Massachusetts, Virginia and New Jersey, this is not necessarily good news for Republicans.
Americans dispense just about as much disdain for Republicans (42 percent favorable; 46 percent unfavorable) as Democrats (42 percent favorable; 48 percent unfavorable), according to a Fox News poll released Friday.
On the other hand, the new kid on the block -- the Tea Party Movement -- fares better (35 percent favorable; 22 percent unfavorable), although more than four of 10 voters are unable to give an opinion or say they have never heard of the group.
obama and his cohorts love to promote the notion that republicans haven't offered up any ideas to "fix" the issues he views as "problems" faced by the country.
And time and time again...He's lied. Willingly and blatantly...lied.
Both he and his cohorts view "bipartisan" as being something along the lines of "bend over and grab your ankles, 'cause....we won". That's clearly not the case. Their arrogance and ignorance of how government is supposed to function isn't something ANYONE should have to waste their time on.
Saturday, January 30, 2010 Conservatives Deliver Ideas, Again, to President Obama Posted by: Townhall.com Staff at 1:18 PM Guest post from Mike Brownfield with the Heritage Foundation
If a casual observer were to watch President Barack Obama’s speech today to House Republicans, they might walk away thinking that the minority party hasn’t offered up any ideas to fix the problems that plague America.
But if that casual observer stuck around for the questions and answers, they would have seen an entirely different picture – a conservative party standing up to the President and making it clear that they do, indeed, have ideas but that their message has fallen on the President’s (and liberals’) deaf ears. The problem for the President is that the conservative message is resonating with America, as evidence by Scott Brown’s stunning electoral victory in Massachusetts’ Senate race.
On the subject of health care, the President said that he didn’t get “a lot of nibbles” when he attempted to work with Republicans on the issue. But bipartisanship is a two-way street, and as Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) made clear to the President, her party has offered a slew of ideas. The trouble is, liberal leadership isn’t listening.
As Rep. Blackburn said:
Quote
We have over 50 bills … we’ve got plans to lower cost, to change purchasing models, address medical liability, insurance accountability, chronic and preexisting conditions, and access to affordable care for those with those conditions, insurance portability, expanded access, but not doing it with creating more government, more bureaucracy and more cost for the American taxpayer …
And if those good ideas aren’t making it to you, maybe it’s the House Democrat leadership that is an impediment instead of a conduit.”

Last year, CNBC's Rick Santelli sparked a nationwide movement.
As he was being interviewed while at the CME Group in Chicago, the subject being discussed was the nearly 1 trillion dollar "stimulus" offered up by the obama administration. As Rick railed against the idea, he broke into what has now become "The Shout Heard 'Round The World".
We're coming up on the 1 yr anniversary of Rick's rant, and the "birthday" of a growing citizen-movement. And one man who's running for the Illinois Governor's spot, Adam Andrzejewsk, is letting everyone know that what Santelli started, he intends to continue, in Illinois.
by Adam Andrzejewsk It all started in Chicago. Rick Santellis call to arms was broadcast from Chicago. The first Tea Party was last year on a cold day in February. I heard you. We need a new generation of leaders that will serve the people, not the political class. My campaign for Governor started because I heard you and I still hear you.
The Tea Party movement is now a year old and what better place to celebrate the movement than in Chicago. We will be at the Dierksen Federal Building plaza at 2:30pm having a rally in honor of the movement and to celebrate all that weve accomplished.
Im also bringing in someone who knows a little something about freedom and just a few decades ago he was fighting in Eastern Europe and Ronald Reagan stood at his side. Lech Walesa will be addressing the gathering to tell us about his struggles.
Illinois has been oppressed by one of the worst Governments in the 50 states, and we have the results to prove it. We are nearly last in job creation and we have are competing with California and Michigan to see which state can chase productive individuals and businesses out of our state.
This is what happens when a state is in the grip of one-party rule, run by an ideology that the entire nation is now calling the Chicago Way.
Thats the bad news. Here is the good news. Its a new day in Illinois. All across the state, citizens are building the grassroots army that will bring Illinois back from the brink. They are getting activated, informed, and mobilized. I want to help them by offering them a real choice not an establishment echo for Governor. That echo is exacting what Im running against.

Today, in Chicago, anti-Communist hero Lech Walesa is headlining a Tea Party Rally. The Rally is in support of Republican Candidate for Governor Adam Andrzejewski. 20+ years ago an American President helped Lech take back his country. Today Lech returns the favor and helps us take back ours.
