Veterans in my family go back to before the War for Independence and include General Nathanael Greene, Daniel Boone, and every man in the lineage between them and me.  I served for 10 years on active duty with the USAF, including a year in Vietnam and Thailand flying EC-47s.  Visit my website for more information.  The photo is of me in 1973 at Ubon, Thailand.  The one on my website is current.  When an Old Fart and a Lovely Lass invited me to join a wonderful forum of fellow travelers who love this country and want to see it returned to its former greatness as a "shining city on a hill", I couldn't very well say no.  My day job keeps me pretty busy, so I may not post often, but I will try to visit as often as I can.  I'll even try to behave. Hey Opabie, ever get curious where you plane is? scratching
http://www.ec47.com/tnhist.htm
For the rest of you, a C-47 is what we lovingly called a "Gooney Bird". The most famous transport aircraft in the history of flight. (my C-130 runs a close second) They were first made in the 1930's and there are STILL some of them flying today.
If you put an "E" in front of the "C-47" you have what is called an "electronic surveillance" aircraft. In English, that means, "Hey, Charlie, we're listening to you". Twisted Evil talsbat

US Army, June '58 to May '61. Spent 13 months, 9 days, 14 hours, 43 minutes, and 17 seconds in Korea ( I wasn't really counting )

Missed the fighting in Korea and was getting out of the service about the time 'Nam was heating up.

Dad served from the gitgo in The Big War to End All Wars, Version Deuce.

His Great Grandpap was with Hoods Brigade in the Uncivil War, His Dad stood at New Orleans with Andy Jackson. His Grandpap was at Kings Mountain with the Overmountain Men.

Supposedly my Mom's Dad went to Coober with Colonel Teddy. Can't prove that, though.
